God willing, we members of AA may never again have to deal with drinking, but we have to deal with sobriety every day. How do we do it ? By learning through practicing the twelve steps and through sharing at meetings- how to cope with the problems that we looked to booze to solve, back in our drinking days. That is from the personal story to handle sobriety. When i first started aa, i heard in a meeting an oltimer say, for the newcomers, Hold on to your seat because your going to go on a hell of a ride! For the first year its like that. The Big book says the mind of an alcoholic is warped, In treament they told us that it takes about a year or more for our brains to start working mosly normal so in that time will feel mood swings high highs, and low lows, some people wont want to deal with that so they will go back out, some will go to a doctor to medicate, and some will ride it out, The Living Sober book says alcoholics our adiction prone so to be carfull with prescription drugs, We can get hooked on whatevr makes us feel better. Overall for the newcomer this program works on day at a time walk in faith Study the BigBook of AA because you will be tested. Abandon yourself to god as you understand God, Goodnight everyone.
