Profile Information

What's your sobriety date:
December 31, 1996
What's the name of your home group:
principle's group of Alcoholics Anonymous
About me:
yes it is. Selfishness- self-centered-ness! That, we think, is the root of our troubles... I'm a work in progress- 13 yrs sober by the grace of God. Father of two. The oldest is back in my life- thanks to AA, and my 17 yr old daughter who never knew me drunk , thanks to AA is also a part of my life. I hate no one, but I do find myself disappointed by some. I've recovered soundness of mind and of body and I'am grateful for all those in my life today. Life on Life's Terms, I can deal with that one day at a time.
Music:
everything except a polka....except when I was drinking and that's not today.
Movies:
Once in a while, I enjoy escaping in the theater, watching a good story , fancied or real, on a super big screen with a dynamic sound system a bag of pop corn. One of many Life's simple pleasures. Love the little stuff.
Television:
read more than watch, when I can- discovery & animal planet.
Books:
Books-aholic....My substitute addiction! If I continue to read as I have and continue, by the time I'm 60, I will have read enough to fit the shoes of the arrogance I had when I thought I knew everything at 20... Haven't stop reading since I've stopped drinking, anything new out there? books like, Chicken Soup for Beer Drinkers..., Metamorphoses-By Ovid, City of God, Confessions by Augustine, the works of Philo, Josephus, The Mishnah, Midrash, Talmud, Rambam, One Breath at a Time, Living Buddha-Living Christ, Emmet Fox, Bible, Apocrypha, The Jefferson Bible, Billy Graham's "Holy Spirit", various ones on the topic of prayer, Imitations of Christ, All AA approved books, some select Hazelden like the little red book, Golden Books of Passions, others-and cook books, sneak in a few Steven King, etc. etc. so many books, so little time...
Relationship status:
In a Relationship
City:
Dania Beach
State:

HP:un-fathomable & awesome....

Where, then, did I find thee so as to be able to learn of thee? For you was not in my memory before I learned of thee. Where, then, did I find thee so as to be able to learn of thee-save in thyself beyond me. Place: there is none. We go "backward" and "forward" and there is no place. Everywhere there you are at once, O Truth, you guide all who consult thee, and simultaneously answers all even though they consult thee on quite different things. You answers clearly, though all do not hear in clarity. All take counsel of thee on whatever point they wish, though they do not always hear what they wish. He is thy best servant who does not look to hear from thee what he himself wills, but who wills rather to will what he hears from thee. -- Augustine's prayer in Confessions 10.26.37

Your Word; sometimes it's what makes the difference

“When a spiritual experience has begun that changes us deeply inside,

it makes us more humble and conscious that we are not very good

at all
. Then I think that people begin to get interesting. They wonder

what happened to them and they begin asking questions, and then is

the time to open up by the witness of words. We do not preach to

other people, we do not talk down to them, God knows we do not

point to ourselves as answers, but we share the beginnings of a victory.

Every real be… Continue

Judging others- the half-empty glass

Praising others should be part of our daily life and a component of our spiritual practice. Imagine what our life would be like if we trained our minds to dwell on others' talents and good attributes. We would feel much happier and so would they! An interesting experiment is to try to say something nice to or about someone ...just for today- starting today. Try it. It makes us much more aware of what we say and why. It encourages us to change our perspective so that we notice others' good… Continue

Hope

"As long as we have hope, we have direction,

the energy to move and the map to move by,

we have a hundred alternatives,

a thousand paths,

and an infinity of dreams."

Blaming Others

When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, do we blame the lettuce? We look for reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. We never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends or family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, to be useful; they will grow well, like the lettuce.
Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and argument. That is my experience. No blame, no… Continue

When the Student is Ready...

The wise student hears ...and practices it diligently.
The average student hears ...and gives it thought now and again.
The foolish student hears ...and laughs aloud.
If there were no laughter, living would not be what it is.

Hence it is said:
The bright path seems dim;
Going forward seems like retreat;
The easy way seems hard;
The highest Virtue seems empty;
Great purity seems sullied;
A wealth of Virtue seems inadequate;
The strength of Virtue seems frail;
Real Virtue seems unreal;
The perfec… Continue

Thanks for that comment. I liked when you said we are part of the picture. I can remember being a kid and wanting to jump into the television to hang-out with the people in my favorite shows. I am now finally part of the picture : )

Ovidio, how are you doing? It has been so busy the past few weeks, taking care of my grandson and continuing to advocate for special needs children. Sending much-missed friendship, hugs & love to you. Have a wonderful day and upcoming week.

Are you telling me you are familiar with the term "peaked"? (wink!) It's not too common, I don't believe. I didn't mean to insult your intelligence or anything!

I always thought your original profile pic looked quite "European" or "Mediterranean" or something -- I don't know why -- & then with the unusual name Ovidio & all -- very mysterious & kinda' exotic, & somewhat intimidating, in an intellectual sort of way. (Am I a sad case, or WHAT?!!! -- LOL!) It's interesting to find out that your mom is from plain ol' Virginia. Yet ANOTHER case of "That's what I get for THINKING!" -- LOL!!!

Dude! You look kinda' peaked (say "pee-kid" -- it's a Southern expression for "under the weather," in case you've never heard it). Have you tried some orange juice? (LOL!)
