i need a sponsor

i need to know if its okay for me to have a female sponsor i mean like what are the rules on this. is it against the rules or just frowned upon. my first sponsor was totally against it but i've heard many people say that they have had sponsors of the opposite gender.

Willing to go to any lengths

Like, 3000 miles in one week kind of lengths???
We are baaaaack...lol....
What a great week, sunshines! Cali, Colorado, and back home. LOTS of miles, and lots of memories, too. Unfortunately, not enough time for all we did, wow. Got to spend time with Randy's family, and even got to go into Frisco for the afternoon, which was bonus for ME. I LOVE Frisco!!! *sigh* My bro-in-law is a great tour guide, lol. Thanks, Rob!
We had a great time, no doubt. Even got home early, so we had plenty of restin'… Continue

Handeling Sobriety

God willing, we members of AA may never again have to deal with drinking, but we have to deal with sobriety every day. How do we do it ? By learning through practicing the twelve steps and through sharing at meetings- how to cope with the problems that we looked to booze to solve, back in our drinking days. That is from the personal story to handle sobriety. When i first started aa, i heard in a meeting an oltimer say, for the newcomers, Hold on to your seat because your going to go on a hell of… Continue

My Thought For The Day

sobriety has really had a big impact on my life, i am grateful for the open arms of A.A. and my fellow alcoholic and addicts who understand me, and are there for me whenever i need some one to lean on. thank you for the gift of sobriety that you have given me. because of you and the program i am able to live my life today one day at a time.

Carrie Graham

A brief introduction.

Since I'm new to these boards, I'll give you Cliff notes on who I am and where I come from - 'Cos it's an honest program.

I first came to AA (shrink's orders) after several suicide attempts when I was about 20/21. I answered "yes, but..." to 17 of the 20 questions in 'Who, me?'. Dr.'s orders were five AA meetings and, by the fifth, I knew I had a problem, I knew I needed help, but I was damned if I was going to throw my fate to a bunch of loopy-eyed, bible-thumpin' Jesus freaks. I stayed dry on… Continue

I'm a fucking disaster

I hate fucking being sober, yes I have my life back, yes I can get up early and be to work on time, I just bought a house, I'm going on vacation at the end of July, I've lost 35 pounds..But I'm fucking empty inside. My insides are black and blue, I'm beat up, I'm hurt, I'm fucking lonely in a room full of people. I hate myself, I look in the mirror and see an ugly person. I'm mean to people, I am hurtful to others, I don't care about anyone or anything!!! I pray, I meditate, I'm working with a s… Continue

My Story

I didn't see an appropriate place to put this . . .

My name is Mark, and I am a real, recovered alcoholic.

I “grew up” (refused to grow up - a spoiled rotten brat) drinking and doing all of the other hippie stuff rock-and-rollers did in the 60’s. I played keyboard in bands and sometimes the only “pay” we’d get for our performances was drunk and otherwise altered.

I got sent to “AA” on court cards and heard some bells going off, but I was far from ready back then. After spending too much of my… Continue

My family deserves a better me and so do I...

Hello,

I just joined FOB and, while I have been to meetings in the recent past, I've yet to commit myself fully to sobriety. I need to do that now. I understand this. I guess I can't do this on my own. I thought I could. I'm not as mentally strong as I thought I was or as I'd like to be. I'm hoping that some of you out there who are fighting the good fight can help me. My kids and wife deserve better than living with a "functioning" alcoholic. Ya, I get up, help with the kids in the AM and PM,… Continue

On my way to legal driving

I finally sent in the paperwork to become a legal driver. I could have had my license 11 years ago just plain stupidity on my part never got the ball rolling. Made a few starts in the last 2 years but never followed through. This time I plan on going all the way and no more driving until I am legal.

"Fast Food" Sobriety

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how people coming into the program these days want to put in minimal effort and expect maximum results. It’s almost as if they want drive thru service from AA. They want to know how to stay sober in under 10 minutes.
I remember coming into the program and spending time getting well and learning about the disease and how to live and apply this design for living that AA offers. Sure, I wanted 20 years yesterday BUT I was willing to go to any length to get it.… Continue

growing

So a couple weeks ago I spoke at my first meeting and it got me thinking about the people I harmed during my career pf drinking. I always thought that I managed not to sink to the depths of a outright thief in my drinking and I realized I had. I didn't steal material items what I stole was more valuable, I stole people's emotions and never thought twice about it. I took love from people and never gave it back, I would steal someone's happiness from them because I wasn't happy and felt they didn'… Continue

Matty K.

Right now!

Right now I feel good. Rested, productive and sober. If I could feel like this all the time I would never have a need or want to pick up again. I am enjoying while it lasts. I went to 3 meetings today and saw my family and stayed out of my own head. I got my new and hopefully last 24 hour chip tonight at my home group. The A.A.s that talk to me all all great people. I am still to shy to speak unless spoken to. Even on this site I had to force myself to comment on some blogs and say hello to a ne… Continue

Gee I've never met a sole in AA who worked the steps from the wall. Just wondering what website you took this from. Seems like it might be useful to all of us to have that so we can access it. Tommy
