STEP 1: We Admitted - That Our Lives Were Unmanageable (1)

If you’re still not sure that you are powerless over the – chemicals – in pills, alcohol or drugs or that your life is unmanageable, then, perhaps it would be helpful to explore:

RECOVERY WISDOM
• A.A. /N.A. is the only place where you can walk into a room full of strangers and still reminisce.

• If the cure works - chances are you have the disease.

• Romance: The odds are good - but the goods are odd.

• Look for a… Continue

Going Through The Steps
A.A. Sponsorship Pamphlet by Clarence Snyder© 1944

This is the first pamphlet ever written concerning sponsorship. It was written by Clarence H. Snyder in early 1944. Its original title was to be "A.A. Sponsorship...Its Obligations and Its Responsibilities." It was printed by the Cleveland Central Committee under the title: "A.A. Sponsorship... Its Opportunities and Its Responsibilities."

I can quote the words of Soloman or Bill or Bob all day long, but that does,nt make me a wise man. Perhaps the ones listening to me will think me wise, But the wisest thing I did was to read the books. I dont believe that the written word is equal to the insights that come from prayer and meditation. When I read the words of the wise men I get confirmation not revelation. Revelation comes from God thru life. Step 11

Thought for the Day
In the past, we kept right on drinking in spite of all the trouble we got into. We were foolish enough to believe that drinking could still be fun in spite of everything that happened to us. When we came into AA, we found a lot of people who, like ourselves, had had fun with drinking but who now admitted that liquor had become nothing but trouble for them. And when we found that this thing had happened to a lot of other people be… Continue

Reflection for the Day
The slogan "Live and Let Live" can be extremely helpful when we are having trouble tolerating other people's behavior. We know for certain that nobody's behavior - no matter how offensive, distasteful or vicious - is worth the price of a relapse. Our own recovery is primary, and while we must be unafraid of walking away from people or situations that cause us discomfort, we must also make a special effort to try to understand other pe… Continue

The Eye Opener
Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010

Many practicing alcoholics know their desperate need for AA but are reluctant to do anything about it as they feel their friends would ridicule them, and so they continue drinking and making themselves ridiculous.

Too many of us put too much emphasis on the reactions of people whose reactions are not worth considering.

Feb. 9, 2010 - Just for Today

Just for Today

Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010

Just for today, I cannot unleash the destruction of feelings whose power is more than negative: they can be devastating and crack the foundation of recovery and sobriety. If I am angry, I will not respond emotionally and instead will detatch and ask as an observer rather than a participant if my anger is logical; if it is, I will deal with it unemotionally; if it isn't, I will let it go. If I am lonely, I will remember that loneliness

There's a wrestling in my mind

Today I woke up feeling like I needed to drink. I slept a lot of the day because I am sick with a cold, but still the desire was there. I told myself not to leave the house for any reason because I didn't trust myself not to buy alcohol. It is not 5:45 pm and I am still struggling.

I've checked the posts on cravings and even though I agree with the nature of where they are coming from, I feel myself wanting to give in. This frustrates me because I've gone 12 days now with

Mind of Gratitude-The Practice of Silent Illumination

When a candle is lit in a dark room, it illuminates the room to some extent,
but its power is limited. But if you use the same candle to light another
candle, the total brightness increases. If you continue to do this, you can
fill the room with brilliant illumination. The idea of transferring merit to
others is like this. If we keep our own light selfishly hidden, it will only
provide a limited amount of illu

"AA" Daily Reflection-

Regular attendance at meetings, serving and helping others is the recipe that many have tried and found to be successful. Whenever I stray from these basic principles, my old habits resurface and my old self also comes back with all its fears and defects. The ultimate goal of each AA member is permanent sobriety, achieved One Day at a Time.

Daily Reflection is an AA conference approved literature

I swear I have waited too long for the day that I got a kind word again from him...How sad is that?

Recently I have been listening to music in a whole new way, as you often do when going through something...

"Do we stay together because were scared to be alone

Got so use to this abuse, it kind of feels like home"

So this morning I get a text from Glen

(well just pretend you know who im talking about instead of giving a recap of my past 30 years)

Morning devotions...

Dear God,
I don't know why I'm in a foul mood.
Please help me get some gratitude.
thankyou just for giving me life,
and making me a happy wife.
MySpace did not cooperate,
Husband? he was running late.
But I recall a big long hug,
standing on the hallway rug.
Can't complain, it's all good,
and I know where I once stood!
Homeless once with bags and no money,
Now I've found a house and honey.
Furniture, clothes, warmth, and a bed,
Man, this gr… Continue

OPINION POLL,

1..WHAT IF THEIR, WAS A closed, MEETING FOR PEOPLE WITH 20 OR MORE YEARS, WOULD THAT CAUSE RESENTMENTS.
My opinion is NO, people who have a number of years, have issues, that deal more with life problems then their sobriety. A advanced level of recovery, more awareness, more understanding.

Backwards - by

So, as I was listening to this song yesterday, it occurred to me that this also applies to what happens when you do the steps. Well, maybe not all of it, but you know what I mean...

Backwards lyrics

Songwriters: Chagnon, Marcel;
Mullins, Tony;

I was sittin' on a bar stool
In a barbecue joint in Tennessee
When this ole boy walked in
And he sat right down next to me

I could tell he'd been through some hard times

Monday Monday

Good morning friends....

So I was a little manic yesterday, a bit overworked and definately exhausted but I made it throught the whole day and now Im ready for this one...

mentally..

Because physically Im sitting in my pajamas with unbrushed hair and teeth with kleenex sticking ot of moy nose trying to defeat this horrible head cold that just wont seem to go away..

I think that painted a pretty attractive, and acurate picture, of my typical Monday morning...

STEP 1 – POWERLESS (5)

The Progressive Nature Of Our “Relationship” With Pills, Alcohol, and Drugs

1. Pills, alcohol, and drugs started out being our “friends.”

They took us to places we thought we could never get to on our own:

• Asking someone to dance.
• Speaking in front of a group
• Being the life of the party.
• Feeling good, rather than bad, about ourselves.
• They brought us to an oasis where that cloud of shyness, loneliness, and boredom was magically lifted from u… Continue
